MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
In accordance with Agency policy and procedures, the incumbent:
(A) Explores the employment opportunities within the Field for Vocational and Teacher Training graduates and for other graduating refugees.
(B) Conducts/assists in conducting job surveys or studies in the Field in coordination with the Field Education Officer and Principals of Training Centres.
(C) Compiles and maintains up‑to‑date records and statistical data on the employment opportunities secured for different specialisations in the Field and abroad.
(D) Assists Registrars/Counsellors/Alumni Officers at the training centres and School Supervisor (Guidance & Counselling) at the Educational Development Centre, inJordan, in the preparation of informative programmes (films, slides, pamphlets, posters, brochures etc.) on career guidance.
(E) Carries out the routine administrative duties related to Placement and Career activities including:-
i) Assisting new and experienced graduates of VTCs and TTCs and other graduating refugees in filling application forms and ensuring that they meet the requirements of the related vacancies.
ii) Referring candidates for trade tests and/or medical examinations. Assisting in interviews and following‑up results.
iii) Preparing contracts for services for the advertisement of vacancies in the local newspapers.
iv) Arranging travel bookings and completing formalities for selected candidates who secured employment abroad.
v) Investigating the employment status of graduates who fail to report to placement unit for possible employment.
vi) Preparing monthly reports on Field Placement activities and quarterly reports on the employment status of Vocational Trade and Technical Trade graduates.
(F) Visits UNRWA Offices, training centres, education development centres, and employers within the Field.
(G) Performs such other functions as may be assigned.
PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES
(A) Academic and Professional
Completion of first university degree preferably in Guidance & Counseling, Educational Psychology or Business Administration.
(B) Experience
A minimum of five years experience in educational administration preferably two years of which at Agency training centres.
(C) Language
Very good knowledge of spoken and written Arabic and English.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
(A) Pleasant personality and demonstrated capacity to work well and maintain good relations with others.
(B) Competency in preparing informative materials.
(C) Knowledge of the Agency's vocational and teacher training programmes.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Will be required to travel frequently to Agency Offices and other employers within the Field.
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
Salary: Monthly basic salary L.L. 1,925,139.- PLUS 2.43% SOA (Special Occupational Allowance)
Contract Duration: Fixed Term – One year (May be converted to fixed term – three years).
Holidays: 30 days annual leave
Dependency allowance: Dependent spouse: L.L 60,000 per month Dependent child: L.L 33,000 per month
Pension: Provident Fund contribution
EQUIVALENCY
Candidates with an equivalent combination of relevant academic qualifications, professional training and progressive work experience may also be considered.
RECRUITMENT PROCESS
The Recruitment process is based on the Agency’s strategy to obtain the best qualified and suitable employees through a competitive recruitment process. After the deadline for receiving applications, all applications will be reviewed by the Human Resources Office and the Hiring Department. Only Short-listed candidates who fully meet the required criteria shall be contacted and undergo technical/practical tests and the candidates with the highest passing scores will then be invited to interview (see “Technical and Practical Tests Required” below). The final recommendation for selection is based on the test results, interview assessment, Agency priorities and needs and the candidates’ profiles. Where there are two or more equally qualified candidates, selection preference will normally be given to internal candidates, Palestine Refugees and candidates of the under-represented gender. The Agency maintains the discretion to fill future vacancies for this position from the roster without re-advertising the vacancy.
As an Area post, preference will be given to local candidates already based in the duty station of the post.
TECHNICAL & PRACTICAL TESTS REQUIRED
Short-listed candidates will sit for two tests:
Written technical test (100%).
Computer test (Pass/Fail), which includes (Intermediate Level: MS Excel, MS Power Point and Internet).
The top 5 scoring candidates in the written technical test given that (i) none have scored less than 50%, and (ii) none have failed the computer test, will be invited for an interview.
