Child Protection Officer

The Child Protection (CP) Officer is responsible for follow up of child protection programs/activities within WCH in line with child protection quality standards

 

The CP officer contributes to the integral implementation of CP across projects.

 

Position within the organisation

 

The Child Protection officer is part of the Program Development Department and reports directly to the Program Development Advisor/Child Protection.

 

She/he coordinates with the program implementation teams, and within other key functions within the department.

 

Result areas

 

Development and follow up of child protection activities

 

Work closely with other child protection staff, including case workers and social workers, to identify child protection issues and inform evidence based programming

Assist in designing and developing child protection programs and/or activities within WCH strategy

Make frequent field visits to projects’ areas to follow up on quality of implementation of child protection activities, identify opportunities and constraints and any adjustments needed including additional staffing or staff training

Support implementation of WCH Child Safety policy internally and externally with partners.

 

Result: CP standards and policies are implemented in such a matter that cover all the projects

 

2. Delivery of child protection capacity building

 

Assist in designing child protection capacity building plans for staff and partners

Deliver child protection sessions, trainings and briefings, including tailored trainings where needed and feasible, to staff and partners.

Provides ongoing and necessary technical support, guidance and advice to program staff and partners in the field of child protection, including child safety

Supports staff and partners in the development and implementation of child safety policy

Delivers child safety briefings when needed to external visitors and new staff, in coordination with HR.

 

Result: Staff and partners are briefed and supported in such a matter that allows child protection standards to be implemented

 

3. Internal and external coordination and representation 

 

Coordinate with other team members, mainly PSS and Education teams, to ensure that child protection connects and is mainstreamed in other WCH areas of work

Represent WCH externally, in relevant platforms/networks focused on child protection themes, including CPiEW and PSS committee

Contribute to the development/revision of child protection materials developed in working groups/platforms/networks

Share child protection material and other useful and relevant information, including tools and methodologies, with staff

 

Result: Child protection is connected with other departments in such a matter that child protection is mainstreamed in other areas of work and new material is developed

 

Knowledge and experience

 

Relevant academic background (Social Sciences / International Development Studies);

Knowledge of current principles and practices of Child Safety and Child Protection;

Understanding of child rights (programming) in conflict and post conflict environments

Minimum 3 years (I)NGO work in developing countries / conflict areas, preferably with children;

Minimum 1 year in the field of CP and program implementation;

Minimum 1 year in staff capacity building and experience in providing trainings

Demonstrated experience in monitoring and evaluation of projects
