Job description
1. Background: The Conflict Prevention Program Assistant (CPPA) will support the Program Development Advisor (PDA) in the implementation of two main projects and two pilot projects within the War Child Conflict Prevention program in Lebanon.
The project “Peace Beyond Fear” (funded by the Liberty Foundation) has been implemented since the beginning of 2012. It aims at (a) changing the perception of the ‘other’ and correcting common misconceptions and stereotypes through the establishment of Peace Youth Clubs and the organization of outreach events; (b) it strengthens the capacity of young people to launch initiatives related to citizenship and peace-building through the conduction of workshops, summer and winter schools; (c) it helps them in expanding inter-communal and inter-generational dialogue as well as in spreading a message that a positive change is possible by actively including community members; (d) it influences decision-makers at local and national level to promote peace and understanding among different sectarian groups by relying on the War Child methodology of Performing for Peace. The project “Puzzle Peace” (funded by the European Commission) has been implemented from March 2013 and aims at (a) raising awareness on the meaning and importance of conflict prevention and its tools in 9 communities (Beirut, Mount Lebanon and the North) by conducting participatory theater performances; (b) it will strengthen capacities of Parent Council members, students (11 to 18 years old) and teachers in the application of conflict prevention tools within their schools through the conduction of training of trainers, informal capacity-building sessions and the application of the War Child DEALs methodology; (c) it will disseminate context-specific tools, lessons learned and findings related to conflict prevention through the application of participatory PM&E techniques, as well as the writing and publishing of a practical handbook for schools. Young Peace Builders in Baalbeck/Hermel (pilot project). Will be implemented starting in October 2013 until January 2014. This project aims at empowering 40 young people to become change makers in their communities. Four youth clubs will be established, these clubs will carry out activities like: drawing peaceful murals, they will run the marathon for peace in Baalbeck, they will produce a movie on peace followed by a dialogue session, they will organize exhibition days. Throughout the project the young people will participate in conflict resolution trainings and social media workshops that will provide them with the needed skills to become change makers in their communities. Partner: Lebanese Organisation of Studies and Training (LOST).
Peaceful Rocket (pilot project) This project will be implemented in October 2013 until January 2014. This project will target 30 young people in the Southern suburbs of Beirut in a five day training. Young people from different backgrounds will learn how to work together in harmony; they will have a raised level of awareness on the need for conflict prevention and learn skills to prevent conflict in their daily lives. In this project they will learn how to build robots that carry out peaceful missions, these robots will be used as a symbol for change. The young people will present their project to other youth in the Southern Suburbs of Beirut and finally create a memorial in a public space. Partner: NAHNOO.
2. Objective of the CPPA position:
The ultimate objective of the CPPA is to achieve the Projects Objectives and Outcomes through the timely management of planned activities and effective use of project resources.
3. Key tasks and responsibilities:
Working under the supervision of the War Child Program Development Advisor to whom he/she will report, and in strong link with our partner organization focal persons, the CPPA will be responsible for leading the project in the day-to-day implementation (including resources management) within the set timeframe and available budget. More specifically, the CPPA will perform the following duties:
Manage relationships with all program partners in order to maintain program schedule and achieve program deliverables
Coordinate and provide trainings, workshops and conferences
· Coordinate logistics and daily activities in all program locations
· Oversee Focal Points in program location
· Regular visits to project locations for the monitoring of their work (9 schools in Beirut, Mount Lebanon and the North, as well as the projects partner offices in Beirut and Baalbeck/Hermel)
Provide scheduled reports to Program Development Advisor
· Contribute to program monitoring and evaluation
· Take a leading role on event logistic coordination
· Contribute to program outreach and publicity efforts as needed
· Participating in meetings with partners and donors
· Produce communication material to raise the visibility of the projects
· Liaise and coordinate with relevant Ministries, UN agencies and the European Commission
4. Time-frame
The CPPA is a full time employee War Child Holland and the initial contract will be for a period of at least 11 months.
5. Duty station and travel arrangements
The CPPA will be based in the Beirut office of War Child Holland, with frequent travelling to project locations across Lebanon.
6. Project inputs
War Child Holland will provide the CPPA with office space in Beirut, a notebook computer, transport for duty travel, and access to electronic mail and the Internet.

Previous working experience in conflict prevention or social development projects
Good facilitation skills
Dedicated and committed to aims of the project
Good analytical and planning skills
Excellent inter-personal skills; good communicator at all levels from political decision-makers to grassroots communities
A postgraduate degree in any of the area of social sciences, development, post-conflict reconstruction, etc.
At least 2 years management experience in implementing development projects in the above-mentioned fields
Experience working in Lebanon
Strong managerial skills, results-orientation, team-building and leadership skills
Decisiveness, independence, good judgement, ability to work under pressure
Excellent networking and partnering competencies and negotiating skills
Ability to use information technology as a tool and resource
Mandatory fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English
Demonstrable skills in office computer use - word processing, spread sheets, etc.
