Consultant (Translation And Research Support)

Job description 1. Background: In response to the Syrian crisis, War Child works through local partners to provide psychosocial support to children and young people affected by the conflict. War Child is seeking a consultant to support the implementation of a Child Rights Situation Analysis (CRSA) within War Child’s ongoing child protection program 2. Objective of the position: To support the translation, interpretation, and analysis of data collected through War Child’s implementing partners in the field, to contribute to a final report. 3. Key tasks and responsibilities: The consultant will work under the supervision of the War Child Syria Emergency Program Manager, to whom he/she will report. He/she will be responsible to: Organize and manage the information/data received from War Child’s partners in the field that are implementing the CRSA. Lead the translation and interpretation of data received from War Child’s implementing partners in the field from Arabic to English. Support the analysis of data/information received, to contribute to the final CRSA report. 4. Time-frame The consultancy will be full-time (5 days per week) and will begin as soon as possible until October 15, 2013 with the possibility of extension depending on performance. 5. Duty station and travel arrangements The consultant will be based out of the office in Beirut.  6. Project inputs War Child Holland will provide the consultant with a work space at the Beirut office and remuneration commensurate with experience. 7. Required skills and competencies Fluency in Arabic and English (to read data/reports from the field in typed and handwritten Arabic and to translate into English) Strong contextual knowledge of the humanitarian crisis in Syria (In order to interpret data/information received) Strong research and analytical skills Background in child protection/or strong knowledge of child protection issues preferred. Able to work independently, detail  and deadline-oriented Interest and motivation to contribute to War Child’s child protection programming in response to the conflict in Syria, with willingness to take on other responsibilities, as needed, in order to complete the CRSA by the deadline.
