Finance Coordinator

General objective of the job

The Finance Coordinator is responsible for the coordination between the Finance Department and other departments at War Child (Operations, Implementation & Technical) for budget preparation, revision of grants, funds, and budgets for all related programmes, donors, and departments.

The Finance Coordinator ensures adherence to WCH’s policies and donor requirements. 

The Finance Coordinator is responsible for supporting the Finance Manager in financial management and budget control.

They support and guides Project Managers and Coordinator in addition to Administrative Coordinators and officers on how to keep the books.

They ensure that the financial reports and audits are prepared and submitted to the Finance Manager on schedule.

They support the Finance Manager in building the capacity of Finance Officers, Administrative Coordinators and Officers, in addition to the Financial and Administrative staff of War Child’s Partners.

 

 

 

Position in the organisation

 

The Finance Coordinator is part of the Finance department reporting to the Finance Manager.

S/he does not manage staff.

The position will be based 60% in the office and 40% in the field

 

 

Result areas

 

  1. Financial Management

 

  • Follows up on day to day operations of the finance team; 
  • Supports the Finance Manager in the preparation of financial reports to donors by assuring that the bookkeeping contains the requested data;
  • Coordinates with the Finance Manager in reviewing the monthly field bookkeeping reports  and gives feedback to project Managers/coordinators and admin staff on use of codes, prices of goods and monitors balances on advances, and cash disparities etc.;
  • Assists the Finance Manager in the preparation of the country financial reports;
  • Acts as the focal point for internal and External Audits;
  • Makes overviews of regular payments such as tenancy contracts, licenses, insurances and other regular payments and make sure these are updated/paid in a timely manner;

 

 

 

Result: Finances are handled in such matter that all financial documents are done according to international auditing standards

 

Budget control/monitoring:

 

  • Maintain budget control and monitor cash flow for the area. 
  • Ensures that cash and bankbooks records are updated on daily basis, ensuring that all coding is in line with donor and country coding structure. 
  • Makes sure that all data/documents/reports are digitally archived and up to date;
  • Coordinates with Project Managers/Admins Staff to ensure proper communications and work between program and Finance function;
  • Reports findings, such large deviations, unusual spending, different (booking) procedures are used by the different projects, to the Finance Manager;

 

Result: Financial administrative tasks are handled in such a way that a filing system is in place.

 

 

 

Supervision and Capacity Building

 

  • Builds to the  capacity of all finance officers/assistants within WCH and of partner organizations;
  • Builds the capacity of non-financial staff on financial and bookkeeping aspects of project management;

 

Result: War Child Lebanon staff and partner staff have the needed financial knowledge and skills.

 

Child protection concerns are raised and addressed according to international and internal standards

  • Reports any child protection concern identified within the organization at all levels to the Child Safety focal point, in full confidentiality and best interest of the child;
  • Consults with the Program Development Advisor Child Protection  on child protection concerns identified from program’s staff and field to inform program development;
  • Ensures all staff under supervision has read, understood and signed the Child Safety policy and Code of conduct, and is aware of terms and conditions, in coordination with HR and the Program Development Advisor Child Protection;

 

Knowledge and Experience

 

Bachelor Degree in Finance, Accounting or similar degree;

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in similar positions with an NGO;

 

Skills and Competencies
