Background:
In response to the Syrian crisis, War Child works through local partners to provide psychosocial support to children and young people affected by the conflict. War Child is seeking an experienced psychologist to be a full-time member of the program team, to support local partners.
Objective of the position:
To develop and implement the ‘duty of care’ component of War Child’s program, with the purpose to support the wellbeing of staff of partner organizations who implement War Child’s programs in the field. Duty of care refers to War Child’s attention to risks staff in the field are exposed to, that affect their personal health and safety, and the steps taken to avoid and mitigate the impact of those risks. The work of the psychologist will primarily involve the provision of individual and/or group counseling for adult humanitarian workers, to help them cope with their challenging working context.
Key tasks and responsibilities:
The psychologist will work under the supervision of the Program Development Manager. He/she will be responsible to:
Provide individual and group counselling to War Child’s partner staff.
Provide remote follow up and ‘self-care’ support to individual partner staff.
Develop and implement other tools to support the wellbeing of partner staff (might include a support ‘hotline’, peer support groups, and workshops on relevant topics)
Report on all above activities, while maintaining confidentiality, to line manager.
Time-frame
The psychologist is a full-time position (5 days per week). The position will start as soon as possible and will last for 6 months; with possibility for extension.
Duty station and travel arrangements
The psychologist will be based at War Child’s office in Beirut.
Project inputs
War Child Holland will provide the psychologist with a monthly salary commensurate with experience, as well as transportation and communication costs, and a laptop computer.
Required skills and competencies
Master’s degree in clinical psychology. A diploma in psychotherapy is a plus
Fluency in Arabic required; proficiency in English
Two to three years of experience in relevant field (working with NGO or as a counselor or psychotherapist)
Background/contextual knowledge regarding the conflict and humanitarian situation in Syria, and sensitivity to the context.
Team oriented, with ability to take own initiative and work independently.
