CONTRACT DURATION: 6 months, full-time

OVERVIEW

WeWorld-GVC (WW-GVC), constituted from the merger of two NGOs in 2018, is an Italian secular and independent organization working since 1971 in international cooperation and humanitarian aid. Present in more than 20 countries, WeWorld-GVC operates in the following areas of assistance: human rights, humanitarian aid, food security and livelihoods, access to water, health and hygiene, education, global citizenship education, quality teaching and international volunteering.                                                                                                                                                                 

WeWorld-GVC has been working in Lebanon since 2006 and is currently supporting vulnerable populations through multi-sectoral emergency responses as well as water governance, livelihood, and local development interventions in Baalbek-Hermel and Akkar governorates. WeWorld-GVC interventions aim to increase the populations’ resilience, enhancing the communities’ capacity to find, within its fabric, the skills and resources necessary to grow in a self-sufficient manner. The mission counts more than 50 employees, divided into four offices (Beirut, Zahle, Ain, Kobayat). The main donors of the mission are EU, OCHA, AICS, and AFD.

OBJECTIVE/PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Under the line management of the MEAL Coordinator, the Data Analyst aims to support the Lebanon mission on the technical design, implementation, quality, and monitoring of data processes as well as to ensure the validity and to strengthen the quality and efficiency of all WW-GVC research cycles. Particularly, the Data Analyst designs and develops data collection and visualization tools and supports the creation of reporting products and the data management systems of WW-GVC mission in Lebanon. The Data Analyst will provide technical inputs at all stages of relevant research cycles, including secondary data reviews, assessment conceptualization, research design, data cleaning, data analysis and production of information products (maps, factsheets, reports etc.). In addition, the position has the responsibility of capitalizing on the experience of its work and the needs of the mission to support the development of rigorous analytical processes. The Data Analyst will be part of WW-GVC’s MEAL department and will be required active coordination with other relevant departments.

MAIN ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Management

  • Design mechanism to ensure the quality of the data to be analyzed, considering any data cleaning/wrangling needed before the process of analysis.
  • Support and oversee the rollout of data collection exercises and research for water governance, agriculture, and livelihood related studies.
  • Interpret data and applied research findings and communicate and present/visualize results, limitations, and ideas relevant to WW-GVC programming and relevant sectors of intervention.
  • Manage and elaborate quantitative and qualitative data to produce a clear design of analysis and explore its standardization for its reproduction in other projects or contexts.
  • Produce and update information products such as dashboards, reports and infographics using data visualization instruments.
  • Prepare and adapt study designs, survey samples, statistical models, and other data science applications.
  • Draft and triangulate qualitative and quantitative information, including secondary data from thorough literature reviews, in form of comprehensive reports or research papers.
  • Support the design and implementation of technical field assessments that inform MEAL, programs, and the project development unit.
  • Inter-departmental support in designing and reviewing research and data collection methodologies and tools.

MEAL-related activities

  • Jointly with WeWorld-GVC MEAL Coordinator and Officers, plan and provide the necessary training, ensuring the staff is capacitated for data collection exercises and usage of MEAL tools.
  • Providing specific support on monitoring and evaluation of processes including in the development/update of data briefs, reports, comparison studies etc.
  • Capitalize on the experience and limitations identified in the mission to optimize general analytical process, data management and coordination, bringing in lessons learnt from implementation and analyses.
  • Capitalize and provide feedback to the Lebanon mission on any other matter relevant to the development of a rigorous analytical process (data collection, data cleaning, monitoring, evaluation etc.).
  • Conduct ad-hoc field visits and spot checks to ensure consistency in data management practices among WW-GVC, consortium partners and external consultants’ staff.
  • Support the development of learning, lessons learnt and best practices material and roll-out of training or dissemination sessions/events. 
  • Draft end-user and/or technical documentation to support WeWorld-GVC staff, seconded staff, partners or consortia.
  • Provide training to end-users on the use of standard data collection/management/analysis systems and tools.

Carry out other related activities as assigned by the MEAL Coordinator as deemed necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • University degree in computer and data science, mathematics and statistics, information technology, economics, engineering, social studies, or related fields.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of proven experience in using research methodologies and quantitative/qualitative data analysis (including collecting, cleaning, and triangulating information).
  • At least 1-year of experience in humanitarian or development settings.
  • Experience with statistics and data science toolkits (e.g., R, Stata, Python, etc) and data visualization applications (e.g., MS Power BI, Qlik, Tableau).
  • Solid computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Ability to draft, report and communicate results internally and to external stakeholders.
  • High proficiency in Arabic and English.
  • Good coordination, flexibility, and adaptability to work within a multicultural team.

Desirable requirements

  • Previous experience in working in WASH/Water Governance, Livelihood or Emergency projects.
  • Acquaintance with mapping tools, such as ArcGIS or QGIS.
  • Experience in MEAL and Project Cycle Management.
  • Experience with database management, including knowledge of database management languages (eg SQL).
