Base: Beirut with visits to the other offices in Lebanon (Zahle/Ain/Kobayat).

Background and Context

WeWorld has been operating in Lebanon since 2006, working across sectors including water governance, education, food security, livelihoods, and local economic development. Today, it operates in different regions of the country and considering the evolution of its interventions, their wide reach and their multi-sectorial nature, there is a strong need to strengthen communication, visibility, stakeholder engagement, and information sharing about WeWorld’s programmes.

The Communication Officer will support WeWorld’s mission in Lebanon by ensuring consistent, strategic, transparent, and effective communications — internally, with beneficiaries and communities, with donors, partners, and with the wider public.

Summary of Key Functions and Responsibilities:

The Communication Officer (CO) plays a crucial role in implementing WeWorld’s communication and visibility strategy in Lebanon. The CO reports to the Country Representative and works closely with programme teams, project managers, technical specialists, to ensure that WeWorld’s work is effectively communicated to stakeholders, donors, and the wider public. The position is based in Beirut, with visits to other offices and field locations. The Communication Officer (CO) will support WeWorld Lebanon in carrying out Communication activities and initiatives that align with the organization’s mission and goals. CO will support communication activities towards stakeholders, donors, and the wider public, enhancing the organization’s visibility and impact.

Objectives of the Role

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy for WeWorld Lebanon, aligned with the organisation’s mission, values and project goals.
  • Increase visibility and awareness of WeWorld’s work and impact among stakeholders, beneficiaries, media, donors, and the public.
  • Support programme teams with communications, outreach, reporting and documentation.
  • Facilitate knowledge-sharing, transparency, and advocacy through high-quality communication products.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Communication Planning
  • Develop the communication plans of the projects in coordination with Programmes and the Communication Focal Point in HQ
  • Develop a country communication plan in coordination with Programmes and the Communication Focal Point in HQ
  • Supports Programmes in ensuring brand consistency and adherence to WeWorld’s internal communication and visibility guidelines as well as the donors ones.
  • Gather updates, success stories, and key achievements from or in coordination with programmes teams for external and internal communication purposes.
  1. Content Production & Media Relations
  • Produce communication materials in line with the branding and messaging of WeWorld and donor branding guidelines.
  • Set up, organize, and manage an online Communication folder on SharePoint for internal use.
  • Develop case studies and success stories of projects in coordination with Program and Communication in HQ.
  • Collaborate with designers, videographers, and external consultants to produce high-quality communication materials.
  • Support communication on digital channels in coordination with HQ team.
  • Support in media activity and facilitate coverage of WeWorld’s activities — including site visits, events, photo/video coverage, and media outreach.
  • Produce press releases, articles, and human-interest stories highlighting WeWorld’s impact.
  • Support project managers to ensure compliance with donor agreements on visibility requirements.
  1. Programme Support & Collaboration
  • Work closely with Programmes to collect data, stories, testimonies, photos/videos from field activities for documentation and communication purposes.
  • Support Programmes to integrate communication deliverables (visibility, reporting, advocacy) into project proposals, work plans, and reports.
  • Collaborate with the MEAL team to collect impact data, lessons learned, and case studies for communication products.
  1. Stakeholder & Donor Communication
  • Prepare and coordinate donor visibility deliverables: reports, newsletters, information sheets, communication deliverables as per donor requirements.
  • Support stakeholder engagement: prepare communication materials for community engagement, beneficiaries, local authorities, partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Assist in organizing and promoting events, workshops, campaigns, or public awareness initiatives.
  1. Knowledge Management & Reporting
  • Create and maintain an archive of communication materials, photos, videos and interviews.
  • Regularly report to line manager on communication activities, outputs, outcomes, and lessons learned.
  • Monitor and evaluate effectiveness of communication activities (reach, engagement, feedback) and make recommendations for improvements.
  1. Internal Communication & Coordination
  • Manage the Newsletter of WeWorld Lebanon.
  • Develop ideas to improve the communication between WeWorld Lebanon, the HQ and other missions.
  • Provide translation support if needed (e.g. English ↔ Arabic) and ensure communication materials are culturally and contextually appropriate.

Required Qualifications & Competences

Qualification and Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Computer skills, Office applications.
  • Knowledge of image editing and post-production software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Suite).
  • Knowledge of Photography and video production and editing.
  • Fluent in English (Mandatory).
  • Fluent in Arabic (Mandatory).

Education & Experience

  • University degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in communications roles - Ideally in the non-profit sector and in photo/video production.
  • Experience working in Lebanon or in similar regional contexts — understanding of socio-cultural, humanitarian, displacement, refugee issues is an asset.

  • Excellent written and storytelling skills (drafting and editing texts).

  • Genuine interest in the non-profit sector and international cooperation.
  • Availability for travel inside and outside of Lebanon for short missions.
  • Flexibility to work in harsh conditions, in remote areas.

Reporting & Supervision

  • The Communication Officer will report to Country Representative
  • Regular coordination with Programmes, MEAL, Communication Focal Point in HQ to ensure alignment of communication efforts with programme goals and organisational standards.
