GVC is an Italian NGO founded in 1971. Actually is working in 22 countries worldwide. GVC presence in Lebanon dates back to the begin of Syrian Crisis and since then GVC has been implementing emergency and development projects in Bekaa financed by International Donors mainly in WASH sector

Job Title: Site Supervisor

Position: Grade 3 – Level 3

Project: Promoting Sustainable Management of Water Services and Resources in Countries Affected by the Syrian Crisis (TF-MADAD/2016/T04.20)

Duty Station: GVC Office in Ain

Line Manager: GVC Engineer

Responsible for: Supervision of infrastructural works

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ACTIVITIES IMPLEMENTATION:

• Under the supervision of GVC Engineer, guarantee the compliance of GVC interventions with Lebanese regulations (standards, environmental procedures, safety…);
• Supervise the work of the Contractors contracted within GVC projects. This includes but is not limited to: quality controls; monitoring of the weekly plans; respect of safety measures and visibility rules; field verification of executed quantities, etc…
• Facilitate the implementation of the technical works in the communities in coordination with GVC social staff;
• Prepare weekly plans of individual activities under the supervision of GVC Engineer;
• Assist in the implementation of the action plan, review achievement and constraints and provide feedback accordingly;
• Communicate to the Engineer and the Project Officer any issues which may have a direct impact on the general implementation of the project and the organisation’s activities in the area;

COMMUNICATION AND SOCIAL STRATEGY:

• Under the supervision of GVC Engineer and in coordination with the Social Team, communicate permanently with target communities to explain the character of the program under technical point of view;
• Support in the technical training of operators, surveyors, partners’ staff and other stakeholder;
• Suggest new methods and approaches to improve the quality of the activities as relevant based on needs and filed observation

REPORTING AND VISIBILITY:

• Prepare accurate daily reports about the works progress;
• Support GVC Engineer in archiving all the technical documentation is properly filled, updated and classified;
• Contribute to the team’s weekly plans and reports in coordination with the Project Officer;
• Represent GVC appropriately to the community, to other NGOs and institutional partners, ensuring maximum visibility of GVC and its donors.
• Any other task not here listed and necessary to the projects and activities

Personal Skills:

• Knowledge of construction techniques and principles
• At least 2 years field experience (site supervisor/mason)
• Medium level of English (written and spoken)
• Driving license
• Good communication skills
• Highly organized and able to work respecting deadlines
• Ability to work independently and in team
• Ability to negotiate and assist in the resolution of disputes/conflict
• Deep knowledge of Bekaa environment would be considered an asset
• Being flexible and with the ability to adjust to changes and new requirements
• Ability to work flexible hours
