Scope of Work/Assignment
The Career Counsellor is responsible for overall individual and group career counseling/job search coaching to beneficiaries to help them make informed career decisions; explore occupational choices; prepare for an effective job search and connect with part-time/full time, internship and employment opportunities. Career Counselors may also be involved in job development, marketing and coordination of Career Services recruitment services such as an on-line job listing services and career fairs, supporting in interviews, resume referrals and special career events. He/she will also be responsible for job matching between the MSMEs employment opportunities and the beneficiaries job opportunities.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Conduct desk market study and research including market assessment of profitable career opportunities, for job placement and future permanent career opportunities.
- Determine appropriate assessments and interventions required to assist beneficiaries, analyze and interpret career assessment results and incorporate in career counseling/job search coaching sessions.
- Conduct group counseling sessions to help beneficiaries make an informed career decision.
- Conduct suitable individual one to one career counselling session to 15 beneficiaries in line with market needs and according to the labor law. Provide at least two individual career counseling sessions to each project participant.
- Assist and guide beneficiaries through occupational exploration and the career decision-making process.
- Guide and coach beneficiaries in self-directed job search strategies. Provide resume/cover letter critiques and interview skills training.
- Engage beneficiaries in use of library and on-line resources for researching employers and current employment opportunities.
- Connect MSEs employment opportunities with suitable potential candidates from the selected beneficiaries.
- Provide counseling and administrative support as required to achieve the project’s goals & objectives.
- Informing beneficiaries about potentially helpful career-related opportunities.
- Assess the businesses areas of success and provide proper follow up after job placement to achieve the business opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Education: Advanced University degree in Business management, Economics, Social Sciences or any other field relevant to development.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of previous experience in Business development work and job counselling.
- Languages: Excellent command of English and Arabic (speaking and writing).
Required Skills:
- Experience in the private sector, Businesses and cooperative organizations.
- Knowledgeable about ever-changing trends across all dominant industries.
- Familiarity with obscure yet accessible job opportunities.
- Knowledge of issues relating to women rights, gender, humanitarian, development issues, and protection response.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a supportive technical and communication style.
- Ability to understand the cultural and political environment and to work well with partners including local authorities.
- Understanding the cultural norms, traditions, and the socio-economic situation of Beirut/Mount Lebanon and North areas.
- Understanding of the structural, social and financial struggles of vulnerable job-seekers
- Keep up to date with all market developments and needs
- Patience and positive attitude is highly requested
- Strong market and private sector knowledge
- Strong communication skills.
- Excellent command of written and oral English and Arabic
