Project Description:
WPA is looking for an experienced trainer to engage at least 10 male youth from two different Palestinian camps (South and Beirut) in a forum theater activity on masculinity. The training will use techniques of “theater of the oppressed” and “forum theater” which purpose is to bring to light systemic exploitation and oppression within common situations, and to allow spectators to propose solutions. The aim of the activity is for men to become aware of power dynamics and gender stereotypes, how these are embedded in relationships and the impact this might have on perpetuating violence against women, children or peers.
By the end of the training, the youth will have
- Learned about forum theater and it’s techniques,
- reflected on power imbalances between men and women and how these contribute to violence,
- learned techniques of acting (vocal and physical skills and techniques),
- and developed together with the trainer a forum theater play on masculinity.
Over a period of 6 months, each group will conduct 10 performances of the play, reaching a total of 500 people. The trainer should be present during the first four performances and provide feedback to the participants.
Tasks and deliverables
- Participate in the recuritment of 10 participants who are motivated to engage in a theater activity with the aim to prevent violence and promote positive masculinity
- Introduce the participants to forum theater and develop their acting skills including developing a range of vocal skills and techniques (clarity of diction, inflection, accent, intonation and phrasing; pace, pause and timing, projection, emotional range etc) and physical skills and techniques (body language, posture, coordination, stillness, facial expression, expression of mood, spatial awareness etc.)
- Develop together with the youth a forum theater script and rehearse for the performance
- Draft the invitation and support youth to outreach audience
- Support in identifying additional venues for the performance
- Provide feedback on the first four performances of each group and collect lessons learned
- Submit a final report highlighting the impact of the intervention, recommendations and lessons learned.
Conditions of service and Management
- The duration of the contract is based on the below mentioned deliverables, with the expected start date of 01-03-2022.
- The contracts for the local contractors are made by WPA according to its rules and regulations. The contractor will report to the Project Coordinator Ms. Sherihan Edelbe based in WPA’s Head office in Beirut.
- Contractors should maintain a training report and comply with all other WPA regulations such as checklists and invoices. The WPA management retains the right to suspend payment on non-compliance of terms or in the event of poor-quality work. These decisions will not be taken arbitrarily but in consultation with all relevant stakeholders.
- Remuneration: The total contract value will be USD 6000 which will be paid on instalments upon receiving the deliverables and confirmation of acceptance of the quality of the deliverables by WPA.
Payments: - Payment 1: 20% Upon signature of the contract
- Payment 2: 40% Upon completion of training
- Payment 3: 40% Upon completion of 4 performances per group and submission of final report

- At least 3 years of experience in delivering theatre workshops on social issues with a focus on violence against women and children
- Previous experience in facilitating/ training in Forum Theater, and/or participating in Forum Theater performances (Joker as a plus) Experienced in a wide range of theatre approaches and techniques
- Fluency in Arabic, English is a plus
- Knowledge of the Palestinian camps is a plus
- Flexibility to move between Beirut and Saida
