Lebanon Health Sector Emergency Situation Report - Issue #8 - November 25, 2024

Situation Update

Lebanon's aging population, comprising 11-12% of the population, faces severe challenges amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis. Over 80% of elderly people live in poverty, with 60-70% struggling to access medications and care for chronic conditions. Limited mobility, lack of appropriate healthcare services, inadequate shelters, and social isolation due to family breakdown and migration worsen their vulnerabilities. Many elderly individuals are excluded from relief eorts, especially as they lack access to digital information. To address these challenges, it's crucial to prioritize elderly care in humanitarian programs, ensure accessibility, and advocate for their inclusion in decision-making.This includes the establishment of outreach care and home-visiting programs. Urgent action is needed to integrate elderly needs into Lebanon's response, ensuring access to healthcare, nancial support, and social services.
