Please visit our website www.worldlearning.org Background:  QITABI is a four year, $41.2 million project that will improve both access to education and learning outcomes in primary schools, in addition to supporting institutional effectiveness across MEHE (Ministry of Education and Higher Education) in Lebanon. QITABI aims to improve outcomes in reading at the primary level, under the assumption that increased literacy directly correlates to increased academic and professional achievement. Improved facilities, services, and teaching – along with more effectively engaged communities and school councils – will not only improve learning outcomes, but also increase the chances of youth remaining in the formal education system. The project has three components: Component 1: Improving reading outcomes for primary level public school students Component 2: Expanding access to safe and relevant education for vulnerable public school students Component 3: Strengthening management (resilience) in the education system to better direct and monitor education Primary Responsibilities Provide technical support and development of Arabic Language Teacher Kit (ALT) for the integration of Technology in Arabic classroom. The Arabic Language Specialist will be working in close coordination with QITABI’s Component 1 lead. The planned key activities under the QITABI project that the consultant will support in implementing include: -          Provide expertise in developing friendly resources based on the Balanced literacy approach (BLA) in the Arabic classroom to empower teachers by acquiring the knowledge. Provide technical input for applying the skills and developing the attitudes needed for a successful implementation of the BLA in the Arabic classroom. -          Provide technical assistance, recommendations, and guidance in supporting teachers allowing them to successfully address different readers’ needs in one classroom teachers, in the context of differentiated learning -          Provide technical expertise in developing a manual/guide for Arabic language teachers by building their capacity in developing similar lesson plans for grades 1 - 4 -          Provide technical input and recommendations on using formative assessment tools to assess student’s learning Deliverables -          Resources based on BLA approach for primary education teachers -          Guide for primary education teachers to develop lessons and apply them per grade -          Technical assistance, recommendation and guidance with developers -          Final report documenting all deliverables and activities performed Required Qualifications -          Master degree in Education or another related field -          5+ years of experience in education and preferably in teaching Arabic Literacy in elementary schools -          Proficiency in curriculum mapping and design in addition to developing teachers’ resources in Arabic -          Preferred experience working in NGOs or INGO or Public sector -          Strong analytical and computer and software analysis skills -          Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills -          Ability to prioritize and multi task -          Ability to work as a team player -          Proficiency in spoken/written English and Arabic is essential
