Communications Officer

Description:  World Learning International Development Programs has an immediate vacancy for a Beirut-based Communication Officer for the USAID-funded D-RASATI II education project in Lebanon. This position is for a Lebanese national or a resident of Lebanon. Duration: 2 months. Background: This position will support a project aimed at training English teachers, developing extra-curricular activities, providing schools with ICT equipment and training, and school leadership development in order to enhance student achievement in public schools.    Primary Responsibilities:   Responsible, in collaboration with the Chief of Party (COP), for press relations related to D-RASATI II and its work, and for the development and publication of a variety of print-media materials (project-specific brochures, monographs, issue briefs, press releases, etc.) to inform target audiences about the work of WL and the D-RASATI II project in which WL is engaged;  Work closely with the Chief of Party (COP) to provide guidance to project staff on effective communications approaches for specific audiences and purposes; Developing systems and processes to initiate proactive outreach to key sector leaders in order to create partnerships and regular exchange of information; Contributing to the Project’s over-arching narrative, stories, and key messages within the overall communication strategy; Contribute to the development and implementation of programs related to knowledge generation, media and communications, related to D-RASATI II and education reform; On request from the COP, be responsible for planning outreach events (such as conferences, symposia or celebrations) designed to build relationships with outside constituencies, advance public awareness of D-RASATI II’s work, and create opportunities to access new private partners and other sources of funding. Managing inter-team processes and ensuring that tasks are completed on time and within budget. Managing, mentoring and overseeing junior staff to meet departmental and organizational goals. Responsible for  drafting communication letters for MEHE in Arabic and English   Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a subject area relevant to the position, such as communications, journalism, international relations, area studies, English or a social science. Fluency in English, both verbal and written as well as fluency in Arabic is required.  Knowledge of French preferred. Ability to mobilize and motivate teams drawn from different backgrounds, disciplines and programs to work together on joint initiatives to produce high-quality publications and other communications that convey information about Drasati’s work and communicate messages about our mission, our capabilities and our results.  Outstanding interpersonal skills including grace under pressure, cross-cultural skills, warmth toward others and capacity to handle awkward situations in public settings.  A minimum of five years’ experience in positions of increasing responsibility in the communications field.  At least three years’ experience in an internationally-focused organization. Experience in a non-profit organization and experience working with USAID-funded activities are highly desirable.
