Quality Instruction towards Access and Basic Education Improvement” QITABI Program
Background
QITABI is a five-year $46.2 million USAID-funded project that will improve both access to education and learning outcomes in primary schools, in addition to supporting institutional effectiveness across MEHE (Ministry of Education and Higher Education) in Lebanon. QITABI aims to improve outcomes in reading at the primary level, under the assumption that increased literacy directly correlates to increased academic and professional achievement. Improved facilities, services, and teaching – along with more effectively engaged communities and school councils – will not only improve learning outcomes, but also increase the chances of youth remaining in the formal education system. The project has three components:
- Component 1: Improving reading outcomes for primary level public school students
- Component 2: Expanding access to safe and relevant education for vulnerable public-school students
- Component 3: Strengthening management (resilience) in the education system to better direct and monitor education
World Learning, under its QITABI project, has an immediate vacancy for 3 short-term consultant “Digital Archivist Specialist – Short Term Consultancy” for 45-days. This position is open for 3 persons who has previous experience in this field and Lebanon’s public sector.
Scope and Responsibilities
Under Component 3 “Strengthening management (resilience) in the education system to better direct and monitor education” the project is providing support to the Center for Educational Research and Development (CERD) in archiving and indexing. The purpose of this assignment is to archive, and index resources (graphs, images, tools etc.), evaluate the resources according to the CERD’s criteria. In particular, he/she will be responsible for:
- Indexation of resources (graphs, images, tools, etc.) according to the regulations and to identify all the possible keywords for the resource
- Evaluation of the resources according to the digital resources criteria in CERD;
- Development of an identification card for each resource according to international criteria such as Dublin Core, IPTC, etc.;
- Archiving and maintaining all the resources in coordination with the programmer working on the storing system designed to store CERD’s resources;
- Collaboration with the team that includes documenters, programmers and producers that work in the publication unit at CERD;
- Maintaining confidentiality and abstaining from copying, diffusing or using and of CERD’s resources;
- Executing the tasks in collaboration with the publication unit at CERD within the deadlines specified.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in archiving and documentation or equivalent relevant field
- A minimum of two years of demonstrated relevant experience in processing digital archival collections, including experience in creating metadata descriptions, digitization, and care of born-digital materials.
- Extensive experience/knowledge of the Lebanese public sector
- Demonstrated experience in photography and picture resolution
- Full professional proficiency in spoken and written English, Arabic and French is required
- Experience in typing software
- Creative and artistic
- Experience in a printing house or education institution is a plus.
