Summary:
The English Education Specialist will lead the design, development, and implementation of high-quality English language teaching and learning materials across World Learning’s education programs. The Specialist will focus on enhancing English instruction for primary-level learners (Grades 1–6) by developing curricula, lesson plans, and classroom-based assessments aligned with national standards and global best practices. In addition, the Specialist will build the capacity of teachers and facilitators through training, coaching, and ongoing technical support, ensuring the effective integration of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) in English education.
Scope:
The UNICEF-funded Dirasa and Makani Programs aim to provide flexible, inclusive, and quality learning opportunities for out-of-school children and adolescents across Lebanon. Implemented in private and semi-private schools as well as community centers, these programs offer tailored pathways for learning and retention support to both out-of-school and enrolled learners.
Within this framework, the English Education Specialist will ensure that English language teaching methodologies, materials, and assessments are contextually relevant, inclusive, and aligned with the Lebanese national curriculum and the programs’ educational objectives.
Main Responsibilities:
Design, adapt, and update English language curricula for all grade levels (ECE, Primary, Intermediate, and Secondary), including scope and sequence documents, lesson plans, and learning materials.
Develop classroom-based assessment tools to measure learners’ English language proficiency and inform instruction.
Integrate Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) principles into English instructional content and model lessons.
Provide technical guidance and pedagogical support to teachers and facilitators to strengthen English teaching practices.
Conduct teacher training sessions, workshops, and follow-up coaching visits to enhance instructional quality.
Curate, adapt, and develop supplementary English teaching and learning resources, including digital and print materials.
Collaborate with other subject specialists and program teams to ensure a coherent and interdisciplinary approach across learning areas.
Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of English learning outcomes, supporting data collection, analysis, and continuous improvement efforts.
Participate in program planning and review meetings, providing technical input on English education strategies and implementation.
Conduct regular field visits to monitor program implementation, provide coaching and guidance as needed, identify areas for improvement, and support the rollout and delivery of trainings in the field.
Perform other related duties as assigned to support the achievement of program objectives.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in English Education, Applied Linguistics, Curriculum Development, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Minimum of 7 years of experience teaching English and/or developing English curricula for primary education in Lebanon.
Strong understanding of the Lebanese national curriculum and language education frameworks.
Proven experience in designing and implementing effective classroom-based assessments.
Demonstrated ability to incorporate SEL concepts into English language teaching.
Excellent command of written and spoken English; proficiency in Arabic is an asset.
Strong facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Willingness and ability to travel throughout Lebanon for training, monitoring, and technical support visits.
