The UNICEF-funded Dirasa Program and Makani Program aim to provide multiple, flexible pathways for out-of-school children that are responsive to each child’s unique learning needs. These programs will be implemented in private and semi-private schools, as well as community centers, and are designed to support out-of-school children as well as provide retention support for students already enrolled in schools.
The English Officer is responsible for developing, implementing, and enhancing English language programs and curriculum. Key responsibilities include creating educational content, training teachers, and ensuring the integration of social and emotional learning elements within the English curriculum.
Main Responsibilities
- The English Officer should have a focus on primary school education in English, be able to create scope and sequences, lesson plans, and classroom-based assessments, and have knowledge of national curriculum and policies for English in Lebanon.
- The English Officer will also work closely with the SEL Specialists to ensure social and emotional learning is embedded in the English curriculum. The specialist will be able to:
- Co-develop scope and sequence for English grades 1 – 6 based on international best practices and adapt scope and sequence to the Lebanese context
- Develop model lessons, using structured pedagogy that fit within the scope and sequence.
- Collaborate on locating English resources and e- resources for primary grades students and teachers
- Embed elements of social and emotional learning into model lesson plans.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Excellent spoken and written English
- Knowledge of national English curriculum and policies in English
- Knowledge of classroom-based assessment systems
- Fluent in English, knowledge of Arabic is an advantage
- Able to travel in Lebanon for conferences, meetings, training, and school visits.
- Ability to work on multiple tasks and flexibility with project demands
