Background
USAID’s “Quality Instruction towards Access and Basic Education Improvement” (QITABI -2) is a five-year program seeking to improve learning outcomes for all students in public primary schools in Lebanon. Its activity targets an estimated 200,000 girls and boys, including those who are registered in second shifts of public schools.
World Learning has a vacancy for a short-term Consultancy named “Arabic Language Editor” for the USAID-funded Quality Instruction towards Access and Basic Education Improvement (QITABI -2) in Lebanon. This position is for a Lebanese national.

Scope and Responsibilities

The “Arabic Language Editor” will be working in close coordination with QITABI-2 Senior Literacy Technical Director
• Provide services relevant to editing literacy material in Arabic
• Provide services relevant to adding full diacritics to Arabic texts addressed to teachers and to children
• Advise on best practices related to leveling Arabic children’s books based on QITABI text gradual readability difficulty and other curriculum resources
• Provide other consultancy support as deemed necessary in revising and editing report and studies addressed to MEHE/DOPS, CERD, and any other materials
• Prepare periodic activity and end of assignment reports

Requirements

• A minimum of 20 years of working experience in positions involving editing and revising educational material in Arabic
• An advanced degree in education MA or PhD in Arabic language
• A demonstrated ability to edit and add full diacritics to text especially texts of children’s Arabic literature.
• An extensive knowledge and experience in leveling books based on text readability difficulty in children’s Arabic literature in the context of building and enriching leveled readers libraries
