Background
USAID’s “Quality Instruction towards Access and Basic Education Improvement” (QITABI-2) is a five-year program seeking to improve learning outcomes for all students in public primary schools in Lebanon. Its activity targets an estimated 200,000 girls and boys, including those who are registered in second shifts of public schools.
World Learning has an immediate vacancy “Arabic Specialist” for primary school Arabic education for its Beirut-based USAID-funded Quality Instruction towards Access and Basic Education Improvement (QITABI-2) in Lebanon.

Scope and Responsibilities
The Arabic specialist will work closely with World Learning’s Beirut office Senior Literacy Technical Director to develop Arabic education teaching approaches and classroom-based assessments for grades 1 – 6 public schools throughout Lebanon.
S/he should have a focus on primary school education in Arabic, be able to create scope and sequences, lesson plans, and classroom-based assessments, and have knowledge of national curriculum and policies for Arabic in Lebanon. The specialist will also work closely with partners to ensure social and emotional learning is embedded in the Arabic curriculum and Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA) tool is aligned to the developed scope and sequence.
Reporting to the World Learning Senior Literacy Technical Director in Lebanon, the specialist will work closely with both that person and the ESL Senior Education Specialist in home office to:
• Co-develop scope and sequence for Arabic grades 1 – 6 based on international best practices and adapt scope and sequence to the Lebanese context.
• Develop model lessons, using structured pedagogy, that fit within the scope and sequence.
• Embed elements of social and emotional learning into model lesson plans.
• Co-deliver Design Studios, in which subject expert members of CERD and DOPS will participate in the articulation and refinement of the QITABI-2 reading approach and develop materials for teacher training and coaching.
• Coach members of CERD and DOPS in the development of lesson plans and materials for teacher training and coaching.
• Co-create classroom-based assessments such as formative assessments.
• Understand results of data gathered through QITABI and QITABI-2 and apply this understanding towards the adjustment of program and policy decisions.

Requirements
• Master’s degree in Education with a focus on primary school education
• Excellent spoken and written Arabic
• Excellent communication skills in English language in written and oral language skills.
• Minimum 7 years’ experience teaching and designing curricula for grades 1-6 Arabic in Lebanon
• Knowledge of national Arabic curriculum and policies in Arabic in Lebanon
• Knowledge of classroom-based assessment systems
• Knowledge of research skills and data analysis, both quantitative and qualitative Fluent in Arabic
• Capacity to travel in Lebanon and outside of the country for conferences/meetings
• Experience teaching and/or working at the primary school level in Lebanon
• Ability to work on multiple tasks and flexibility with project demands
Preferred qualifications:
• Ph.D in education, Arabic language education, or related field
• Teacher training experience
• Knowledge of research skills and data analysis, both quantitative and qualitative
