Background
USAID’s “Quality Instruction towards Access and Basic Education Improvement” (QITABI 2) is a five-year program seeking to improve learning outcomes for all students in public primary schools in Lebanon. Its activity targets an estimated 200,000 girls and boys, including those who are registered in second shifts of public schools.
World Learning has an immediate vacancy for its Beirut-based “English Specialist” for the USAID-funded Quality Instruction towards Access and Basic Education Improvement (QITABI 2) in Lebanon. This position is for a Lebanese national.

Scope and Responsibilities
USAID QITABI 2 seeks a specialist for primary school English education. The specialist will work closely with World Learning’s home office English as a second language (ESL) education specialist and World Learning’s Beirut office Senior Literacy Technical Director to develop English education teaching approaches, teacher training, and classroom-based assessments for grades 1 – 6 public schools throughout Lebanon. The specialist should have a focus on primary school education in English, be able to create scope and sequences, lesson plans, and classroom-based assessments, and have knowledge of the national curriculum and policies for English in Lebanon. The specialist will also work closely with partners to ensure social and emotional learning is embedded in the English curriculum.
Reporting to the World Learning Senior Literacy Technical Director in Lebanon, the specialist will work closely with both that person and the ESL Senior Education Specialist in home office to:
- Co-develop scope and sequences for English grades 1 – 6 based on international best practices and adapted to the Lebanese context.
- Develop model lessons, using structured pedagogy, that fit within the scope and sequence.
- Plan teacher training and training of trainers.
- Assist in the planning and development of distance learning modules.
- Coordinate with CERD and DOPS in the development of teacher training and mentoring programs.
- Co-create classroom-based assessments.
- Design and select teaching and learning materials to support best practices in primary school English education.
- Analyze and interpret results of data gathered through QITABI and QITABI-2 and apply this understanding towards the adjustment of program and policy decisions.
Requirements:
- Excellent spoken and written English
- Minimum 7 years’ experience teaching and designing curricula for grades 1-6 English in Lebanon
- Knowledge of national English curriculum and policies in English
- Teacher training experience
- Knowledge of research skills and data analysis, both quantitative and qualitative
- Knowledge of classroom-based assessment systems
- Fluent in Arabic and English
- PhD in early English education or closely related topic preferred
- Be able to travel in Lebanon and outside of the country for conferences/meetings
