Background:

USAID’s “Quality Instruction towards Access and Basic Education Improvement” (QITABI-2) is a five-year program seeking to improve learning outcomes for all students in public primary schools in Lebanon. Its activity targets an estimated 200,000 girls and boys, including those who are registered in second shifts of public schools.
World Learning has an immediate vacancy “Gender Equity & Social Inclusion” for the USAID-funded Quality Instruction towards Access and Basic Education Improvement (QITABI-2) in Lebanon.

Position Description

World Learning seeks a full time Gender Equity & Social Inclusion (GESI) Specialist to provide technical assistance to QITABI-2 project related to gender equity/female empowerment and inclusive development. Candidates should have demonstrated capability and experience in designing and implementing gender and social inclusion assessments and analyses,  integrating gender equity and social inclusion focus in program management cycle  (e.g., project design, technical deliverables, monitoring, evaluation, and learning), and designing and facilitating trainings/meetings/workshops with program partners, stakeholders, and participants to increase understanding and action to improve gender equity and social inclusion.

 

 

Duties include:

Collaboration, Learning and Adaptation

  • Develop and oversee implementation of the program’s GESI strategy, internal and external learning agenda on GESI issues;
  • Develop, implement and oversee implementation of activities leading towards strengthening of Social Inclusion within QITABI-2, including trainings, mentoring, coaching of staff and partners, inclusion-specific meetings, data reviews, case studies and others;
  • Create products representing GESI work within QITABI-2, including reports, tools, case studies and others, as advised by senior management, and technical experts;
  • Represent World Learning and QITABI-2 in external meetings, demonstrating and sharing work related to GESI.

 

Support to programs

  • Provide technical assistance and support in designing and conducting gender and social inclusion assessments and analyses (using World Learning’ s TAAP Toolkit);
  • Work with the technical team to address the gaps identified in the gender and social inclusion assessments through development of toolkits, resource guides, and other technical resources; and periodically update the assessments in response to changing context;
  •  
  • Design and facilitate meetings, trainings, and workshops on gender and social inclusion;
  • Review project technical and monitoring and evaluation tools and resources for gender sensitivity and inclusion and recommends needed modifications;
  • Review project’s training material and methodology of training and integrate gender and inclusion considerations
  • Develop innovative approaches to gender integration, gender equality, and inclusive development, and participate actively in relevant professional (formal and informal) communities
  • Perform additional tasks as needed and requested, including in support of other World Learning projects

 

Position Requirements

Academic Qualifications

  • Masters degree and 5 years of experience in social sciences, education, international development, or a related field

 

Technical Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise in gender and/or social inclusion integration in education programs
  • Experience in reviewing curriculums of cycles 1 and 2 of primary education to ensure integration of Gender Equity and Social Inclusion
  • Experience designing and implementing gender assessments and analyses (including collecting and analyzing data)
  • Demonstrated experience working with international development donors such as USAID and other US government agencies, United Nations organizations, and foundations
  • In-depth understanding of international development processes, actors, and client cultures
  • Experience in designing and facilitating different types of meetings and workshops using a variety of participatory, adult-learning methodologies and approaches
  • Ability to think strategically and integrate diverse information from varied sources
  • Fluency in Arabic and English required, French is an asset

 

General Qualifications

  • Strong technical and general writing skills
  • Skilled in word processing, database management, spreadsheets (Excel), and web-based programs
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with individuals at all levels
  • Strong planning, organization, and strategic thinking skills

Reporting: The position reports to Director of Programs.
