Overview The world has an insatiable appetite for information and stories – all of which must be communicated clearly, creatively and quickly. A good story told well and information presented professionally draw people to both World Vision and the people with whom we work. Hearing stories can change hearts, increase giving, and lead people to a better understanding of poverty and vulnerabilities and what they can do to end it. Providing quality stories helps position World Vision as the non-government organization of choice and keeps the organization focused on its vision of helping children to live life in all its fullness. Project Overview The Church Refugee Engagement Fund Project is a three-year project implemented by World Vision Lebanon (WVL), with funding from World Vision UN (WVUS). Its overall objective is to “To strengthen capacity within Lebanese faith-based organizations to sustainably contribute to the resilience of vulnerable communities (Syrian and Lebanese) within Lebanon and, possibly, across the border to Syria. To achieve this, the project is seeking partnerships with different Churches and FBOs across the country and aims at building the capacity with FBOs in Lebanon to deliver development and humanitarian assistance to both the most vulnerable, namely Syrian refugees and Lebanese host communities. 2- THE PURPOSE OF THE CONSULTANCY: World Vision Lebanon is looking for a consultant writer to document a most significant change story. The story will be identified by WVL, and its primary audience will be WVUS major churches and donors. The story would also be posted on WVUS Website among other websites and should be accompanied by relevant photos. 3- REQUIRED TASKS: Ultimately, our work must reflect our love and respect for those we serve. Stories and photos should demonstrate high regard for human dignity. We do not portray people as helpless victims. Human needs are balanced with positive language about what people are doing to help themselves. Overall As per the identification of the story by WVL, the consultant is required to meet with the selected story stakeholders i.e project staff, the child, his/her parents, the Church... to get a holistic picture of the impact of the project intervention. Specific Required Tasks • Write powerful and compelling story (ies) between 600 and 900 words: Using verbs in the active voice that are vivid and visual makes for the strongest writing. Where possible, use well-known, simple words in tight sentences. Clarity and brevity are key for engaging content; • Document additional information and interview quotes in separate annex as "notes to editor" per story; • It is important to reflect the voice of the subject – not merely the perspective of the Consultant; • Consultant must also document consent from the subjects of the writing, photos according to WV policies • Story must be accompanied by compelling photographs (10 to 15 photos): images captured must focus on visual subjects that stand out, either in action, color or light. Preferably photos taken for any story must include children, (especially if a child is the main character). Detailed captions must accompany the photos; Photos are to be kept simple, only communicating one idea or message; Make pictures ABOUT people, not OF people: Focus on the eyes of people and show them in relation to each other and the environment; 4- CONSULTANT QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: The Consultant should have the following competencies and experiences: - Bachelor degree in journalism or related field. - Minimum four years’ experience in written and photo-journalism. - Willingness to sample of previous work - Excellent English writing skills 5- DURATION OF THE CONSULTANCY: The consultant will provide services for WVL as needed during the period from September 15, 2016 until September 30th, 2016. 6- For interested applicants, Please send the following: 1.
