PURPOSE OF POSITION:
To provide ensure effective and quality delivery of World Vision’s Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) project interventions in the Bekaa; to coordinate daily with project beneficiaries to support their WASH needs; to coordinate with daily community WASH focal points through training, mentoring, and follow-up to ensure that they can manage their own community’ WASH needs; to supervise project-hired contractors. The WASH Assistant will ensure proper implementation of WASH activities at the field level and actively work to ensure that the project beneficiaries’ water, sanitation, and hygiene needs are effectively being met.
Project Implementation

Identify, assess, and respond to WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) needs among Syrian refugees’ families residing in tented settlements
Supervise the delivery, distribution, and implementation of (WASH) interventions in tented settlements
Supervise the delivery of the water trucking and desludging services and report any failure to deliver or any potential issue or complaint related to the quality of the service.
Collect and review the “means of verification” (MOV) sheets
Conduct household spot checks for service delivery quality.
Conduct chlorine tests and collect water samples for testing in the appropriate way.
Follow up on the solid waste collection in the informal tented settlements and report any potential issue or failure to collect the solid waste.
Conduct WASH items distributions and make sure the distribution goes as planned.
Conduct WASH needs assessments, WASH technical assessments and distributions.
Document and report on conducted activities to ensure that needs assessed are being effectively responded to and that interventions are being documented
Educate people about key aspects of water and sanitation in a culturally appropriate manner
Ensure all work is carried out as per the community needs and project standards
Identify and assess public health and hygiene risks and needs
Capacity Building
Forging relationships with people in the community in order to get the message across.
Provide active and ongoing technical oversight to “WASH community mobilizers”.
Monitor the WASH issues within target communities through the ‘WASH community mobilizers’, as well as directly through spot checks and assessments.
Mobilize, motivate and encourage potential leaders to talk to their fellow community members about good water and sanitation practices.
Develop trust, tolerance and co-operation among community members.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Bachelor’s degree in a WASH-related field (Preferred: Public Health, Nursing, Teaching, etc.) or a Bachelor’s degree in another field with 2 years complimentary WASH experience (e.g. plumbing).
Relevant Experience in relief project implementation or relevant experience in a job with transferable skills (e.g. nursing, plumber, teaching).
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Good written and oral communication skills (English & Arabic)
Ability to monitor work of project-hired contractors
Proven ability to build capacity of partners/ stakeholders through formal trainings and informal job shadowing and mentoring
Good interpersonal skills
Must have cross-cultural sensitivity, problem solving and negotiation skills.
Must have a genuine concern to help the community members
Good team building skills; a creative, innovative, and adaptability personality.

Position requires availability and willingness to work outside regular office hours occasionally.
Position requires willingness and ability to continue to function during a crisis situation, including during a World Vision response to a manmade or natural disaster.
