On September 25, 2025, CeSSRA convened a roundtable discussion titled “The End of the Grant Era: Implications and Potential for Civil Society Actors in Lebanon,” bringing together local civil society actors to reflect on the shifting funding landscape and its impact on the sector.

Daleel Madani, the civil society network, is a programme by Lebanon Support that provides a space for collaboration between civil and civic initiatives and aims to strengthen civil society actors’ cooperation, thus limiting duplication of work, and enhancing the sector. In addition, it is dedicated to promoting accessible information about civil society, in a belief in the right to information and in the importance of transparent civil society work.

يهدف هذا البحث العمليّ المنحى إلى إعلام الممارِسين وصانعي القرار بشأن وضع الحماية الاجتماعيّة واحتياجاتها والثغرات الموجودة فيها، وذلك بالنسبة إلى العاملين في قطاع المجتمع المدنيّ. يقدّم هذا البحث توصيات مستهدَفة تهدف إلى تعزيز وصول العاملين في قطاع المجتمع المدنيّ إلى الحماية الاجتماعيّة، كما تستهدف الدولة، جماعة المانحين والمنظّمات غير الحكوميّة الدّولية، والمنظّمات غير الحكوميّة المحليّة.

This action-oriented research aims to inform practitioners and decision makers on social protection status, needs and gaps of workers in the civil society sector. It formulates targeted recommendations that aim at enhancing access to civil society workers to social protection, and that target the Lebanese state, the donor community and international NGOs, and local NGOs.

Daleel Madani, Lebanon’s civil society network, is holding its first meetup part of its tour, in Tyre.

يهدف هذا الدليل الثنائي اللغة للتزويد بالأدوات والمهارات لتأسيس مجموعة أومؤسسة وتنظيم عملها في لبنان، ونُشرَ ضمن مشروع قاعدة المعرفة حول المجتمع المدني، بالشراكة مع الوكالة السويسرية للشراكة والتعاون (SDC). يجمع تصميم الدليل بين اللغتين العربية والانكليزية من أجل التأكد من وصوله لأكبر عدد ممكن من الفاعلين. وقد صمّمته نايلا يحيا.

This resource published within Lebanon Support's Humanitarian Knowledge Base, in partnership with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), aims to provide the tools and know-how to establish an organisation or collective and operate in Lebanon. It provides the basics relevant to establishing and running an NGO or unregistered group in Lebanon. The Guidebook, designed by Nayla Yehia, presents the information in both English and Arabic so that it has a wider reach.

ينتمي مفهوم المجتمع المدني إلى تلك المجموعة من المفاهيم التي كلما زاد حضورها في حياة الناس زاد عليهم غموضها، ما يحوّلها إلى أيقونة يحتشد الناس انتصارا لها وينبرون للدفاع عنها، خاصة في بلدان الاستبداد حيث يُحاصر المجتمع المدني ويُضَيّق عليه الخناق حتى يكاد يختنق ويتلاشى. والواقع أن لمفهوم المجتمع المدني دلالات متغيرة بتغيّر الأوضاع التي تمر بها الدولة والمجتمع. كذا هو الحال في منتقطنا حيث تختلف دلالة المجتمع المدني إبان بداية أحداث العنف اختلافا جذريا عما كانت عليه قبلها وكذلك عما آلت إليه الأوضاع اليوم. لكن يبقى وجود مجتمع مدني حر وفاعل شرطا أساسيا لتحقيق الديمقراطية المنشودة، ولا يبدو هذا...
