Work Context:
Sonbola is a startup grassroots NGO that focuses on delivering educational programs, specifically to fill
the gaps of Syria’s education crisis and address the education of Syrian refugee children and youth, with
a special focus on quality and sustainability.
Major Responsibilities:
- Provide effective teaching in basic literacy and numeracy to out of school children in agreed upon locations.
- Create a classroom atmosphere that is conducive to learning using interactive teaching approaches.
- Implement innovative, play-based, child–centered teaching methods to engage children.
- Evaluate students' academic development, keep appropriate records, prepare progress reports, and communicate with Supervisor on the individual students' progress. Assess children’s learning progress using assessment tools as provided by Sonbola.
- Prepare lesson plans, teaching handouts and activity sheets prior to sessions where appropriate.
- Manage students' behavior in the classroom appropriately in accordance with the center's and program's rules.
- Attend departmental meetings, donor meetings, workshops, and training sessions during and outside working hour.
Job Requirements:
- BA in Education, teaching diploma or certificate in related fields
- Experience teaching classes to children
- Experience with extremely vulnerable children is a plus
- Demonstrated understanding of working with children and particularly vulnerable children.
- Able tohandle pressure well and work in cross-cultural setting.
- Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English.
