This summary presents the findings of the third round of area assessment (Mobility Tracking) undertaken by IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix in its new format to establish a new baseline on the number of Internally Displaced persons (IDPs), IDP returnees and migrants in Yemen.

Key Highlights;

In September 2025, around 61% of surveyed households in Yemen struggled to meet their minimum food needs, reflecting similar level as in the same period last year. The 2025 Global Hunger Index indicates that hunger remains alarming in Yemen, with available indicators pointing to deteriorating conditions and that the country is likely to fall into the “extremely alarming” category.

All governorates in Yemen remained above the “very high” threshold of ≥20% for poor food consumption, with peaks recorded in Al Bayda, Lahj, Raymah, Ad Dali’, and Al Jawf governorates (43%-48%). To cope...

A new, in-depth investigation by Amnesty International concludes that a US air strike on a migrant detention centre in Sa’ada, north-western Yemen, on 28 April 2025 that killed and injured dozens of African migrants amounted to an indiscriminate attack. US authorities must promptly and transparently investigate it as a war crime.

Yemen’s food security outlook remains dire across all areas, with significant challenges projected to persist through February 2026.

This factsheet highlights UNHCR Yemen’s Quick Impact Projects (QIPs) in 2025—small-scale, community-driven initiatives that promote social cohesion and self-reliance. A new report by Human Rights Watch documents attacks by all the warring parties in Yemen on journalists. An attack on a media center in Sanaa, the capital, by Israeli forces on September 10, is one more example of the danger for media workers in Yemen.

IOM’s Flow Monitoring Registry (FMR) tracks migrant arrivals to Yemen and migrant departure from Yemen through preidentified and accessible flow monitoring points located in various governorates in Yemen including Ta’iz, Lahj, Abyan, Shabwa and Al Mahara.

From 1 January to 6 September 2025, IOM Yemen DTM tracked 2,149 households (HH) (12,894 Individuals) who experienced displacement at least once.
